Hi Room 2, I hope you are learning lots and looking after Mrs Te Paa while I'm away!  

I'm learning lots myself down here in Rotorua.  

I thought you might like to see how many people are here, all learning together.....there are more than 1200! 

I've got lots of new ideas to show you when I get back!

I am a star...

We are proud of Juliana getting her first certificate today - by Tessa.

Do you have any Pets?

To get to know each other and ourselves, and to start investigating what makes us special...we have been asking questions then making graphs to share the answers.
Our most recent graph answers the question "Do you have any pets?"......
We drew our face in the columns for the pets we have. We found out that some of us didn't have any pets!!! Then we talked about what the graph showed us....

• Cats are the most - Juliana
  
• Frogs are the least (except birds) - Tatenda
• Fish are in the middle - Juliana

Cats are more than......

• All of them - Brooklyn
• Dogs - Samuel/Ashleigh
  
• Frogs - Finn/Juliana

Frogs are less than.......

• Fish - Benjamin
• Dogs - Brooklyn

After talking about some new words we decided that some of us were prestructural in our learning (not yet able to talk about what we could see), some of us were unistructural (could say 1 thing we could see) and Juliana was possibly multistructural because she could talk about several things the graph showed.

Swimming

We are absolutely LOVING going swimming... but many children find it a real challenge to un/dress themselves. To help streamline the experience perhaps families could help out by practising (with speed)...especially the 'tricky' parts like turning clothing in the right way, and doing buttons. It would be greatly appreciated!

Junior School Welcomes Room 2 New Entrants

5 of our 7 New Entrants were welcomed to school during this afternoon's Junior Assembly...
We are really glad to have you at Hauraki School! Welcome Harrison, Benjamin, Tessa, Samuel and Kody. Unfortunately Jamie and Finn were absent (so we'll have to welcome them officially next time).

Introducing 'Constable Dave'

Today Constable Dave came to meet us and show us how to be safe crossing the road! He was funny, and made J pull the stickers right out the door!!!
He talked to us about always holding an adult or older person's hand when we cross the road.
We went up the driveway to practise...

He showed us how to stop, take 1 step back from the kerb, look & listen for traffic, then cross if it's safe. He reminded us to look both ways while we are crossing.
Then we tried it......Jamie went first!

The NZ Police website has some useful road safety information for parents in their Youth Education area, in the 'Schools' and 'Downloads' sections - including some information written in Asian and Pacific languages.

Maths Homework

Maths homework starts on Monday! Check your child's book bag for the sheet... it can be returned into the red box labeled "Work to be Marked" that's on the shelving at the front of the room when it's finished. Please remember it needs to be named! Our first piece is a nice easy colour & count sheet to get into the homework routine. I appreciate feedback from parents on how the work went - this helps me make appropriate choices for future homework.
For those of you wanting a little something more this week, click here for some online activities...there are 15 different simple games covering a variety of concepts, but I'd recommend games 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7, with game 11 as an extension for those wanting more! Have fun!

Junior School Stars!

Our first Junior School Assembly this afternoon celebrated the achievements of Brooklyn, J, and Tatenda. Brooklyn has been settling down to his work quickly, J has worked really hard at using his pointing finger to point slowly and carefully to each word when reading, and Tatenda behaves wonderfully with great manners! Well done you 3!
