We would like to invite you to a shared BBQ at Juliana's house on Saturday 4th April from 4pm. The whole class & their families are invited.

Can you HELP?

Next term we are going to be learning about 'Communities' and will investigate bee communities as well as our own school community. Do you know anyone that keeps bees and would be willing to come and talk to us...show us photos or videos of their bees...that we could interview (in person/by phone/email)? Do you have anything else that might help us plan/teach this? Please let me know if you can help.

Look at the Links...

I've added a link (on the right hand side under LINKS) to a variety of websites with appropriate games and activities for children to use. I have checked out these sites, but would always recommend you supervise your child when they are working on the internet.
The links are sorted according to the curriculum area they support.
More links will be added over time, so keep on looking........

'Extra 4 Experts' Maths game

Click here for a fun game to encourage children to remember their basic facts...my suggestion is to select 5 as the number to work on - the link will take you there. Then try to 10 later on when they are quick and confident working to 5. Simply fire the ball at the number you need to add to the one in the middle to make 5 (ie: 0 and 5, 1 and 4, 2 and 3 etc) Sounds confusing, but easy when you play it! Enjoy.

Busy learners of Room 2

Today we celebrate with some more busy learners...this week Angela, Harrison and Benjamin have been working very hard - Angela gets quickly and quietly to her work, Harrison can join groups of things together and count them all to find out how many altogether, and Benjamin can hear and record sounds in the words of his story by himself! We are proud of you all!

We met Harold!

On Wednesday we met Corinne and her friend Harold! We went into Corinne's classroom which was quite different from Room 2. We talked about how special we are then waited for some V.I.P's to arrive...it was us! Her friend Harold was friendly We learned that our bodies need: water food, exercise, sleep, shelter, oxygen and love.
We love Harold....

We all have a story to tell...

To answer our Inquiry question this term "Who am I?..am I special?" we are talking all about
  • who we are...
  • what we do and like...
  • where we come from...
Room 2 children will be adding their stories to our new 'AboutUs' blog as we find out (and learn how to do it!) Our new blog is linked from our Room 2 one - on the right hand side titled "We all have a story to tell..."
Perhaps you would like to share some of your stories/pictures too! Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and family are invited to tell their stories. To be able to do this, we need to set you up as an 'author' of our new blog...if you would like to do this, please make sure you have a google account (it's easy and free - click here) and send your regular email address to sharonh@hauraki.school.nz

What a great morning!.....

What a great morning we had with David Poulton's "Wok and Wal" puppet performance! David told us about the 5 different 'genres' of puppetry - hand, rod, string, shadow and Bunraku. He introduced us to some improvisation puppetry using a mop, bucket and ball. His puppet Albert swallowed a very long sword (which got stuck!!). He told us a story called 'Stone Soup' about sharing. After that the naughty puppet Wok fell off a very high diving board after an elephant drank all the water in the swimming pool. David showed us how to make an elephant mask - we'll have to try it! Lastly he told us a story about looking after eggs in nests. We had so much fun......
  • 'it was fun' said Tatenda
  • 'the egg cracked and it was funny' said J
  • 'the bird was funny when the crocodile came, because he was fighting the egg' said Harrison
  • 'the puppet with the fat tummy was funny, and the puppet show was good' said Tessa
  • 'I liked the small bird puppets best' said Angela
  • 'the puppet show was funny - the whole stuff' said Finn
  • 'it was funny when the dad crocodile came up cos the duck fell off' said Brooklyn
  • 'it was funny when the bird got it's foot in the water' said Juliana
  • 'the man puppet was so funny' said Ashleigh
  • 'it was funny because the diving board went up and he fell off' said Kody
  • 'I heard funny noises' said Emil
  • 'He had funny moves with his hands and funny puppets. It was so funny when the puppet ate stones' said Benjamin
  • 'it is funny when the puppet swallowed the sword and he couldn't get it out' said Harrison
  • 'it was funny when that guy put his sword inside the chair' said Jamie
  • 'it was funny because the puppets did some funny laughing' said Avan

You can have a look at some of his other puppets and shows here.

Here's a little of what we saw....
