Number Boggle

Today we played "Number Boggle" to learn and practise our basic facts for 10. We played with a partner, and had to look quickly for vertical, horizontal or diagonal numbers that added to 10.
Here are a couple of our attempts......

Perhaps you might like to play at home too - print off the 4x4 grid, grab a pencil and go!

We are proud of...

We are very proud this week of Matthew...

and Reihana...

for the fabulous effort they have both been putting into their reading - finger pointing and word recognition. Well done guys, keep it up!

Down on the Farm...

Our farming adventure is underway...to help us understand some of the ways animals can be grouped we read about Mammals, discussed what we heard, then wrote everything we could remember on post it stickies. When we put them onto our define map we had to decide if the information was relevant to Mammals or not relevant...

Then we used the relevant ideas to write a definition of a Mammal...

now we all understand what "Mammal" means!

We have learned a lot of new words (vocabulary) including the special names for the father, mother and baby animals...

And we've discussed what we get from a variety of animals - we were very surprised to learn that the leather shoes, handbags and belts are made of is actually animal skin!

Our Journey begins!

Today we started learning about 'the farm' ...

We talked about animals, and listed all the animals we could think of.
We knew a lot of different animals. We knew a lot about some animals, and not very much about others.
As we were talking about the animals we discovered we could group them in many different ways, and they could be part of several groups...

We need to find out more about grouping animals, so are going to find out about MAMMALS - and why some animals are mammals. Harrison told us that mammals are animals with warm blood...we are mammals! But what else?

The Farm

Next term we are going to be exploring life on the farm - particularly Dairy Farms.
I've added links to some good sites to our "Websites worth a look" page ... just click on "Websites worth a Look" in the Links list on the right hand side. A nice way to create interest and establish some knowledge before coming back to school! Enjoy.
