Ronald McDonald comes to Hauraki School

On Tuesday Ronald McDonald came to school. We went to the library and met him. He told us about road safety! Ronald McDonald showed us a seat belt, but he didn't know how to get it on and off. Caitlin showed him what to do. Next Ronald did his washing but the wind blew one of his socks away! He was funny when he was trying to find it. Then he practised walking to our school safely. He walked on the footpath. "STOP, LOOK & LISTEN, before you cross the street....use your EYES, use your EARS, before you use your feet". He said always click your seatbelt when you are in the car.

What is a Community?

We have discovered that the bees in the beehive are a community because:
  • all the bees work together to help the hive
  • all the bees have a job
  • every job is important
  • bees would be missed by the community if they weren't there - there wouldn't be anyone to do their job
That made us think that we are also a community in Room 2!!!

To learn more about communities of people we watched a DVD that explained more about what a community is. We found out a lot of things! Our voice thread shares some of the things we learned.....

Relational thinkers!

To help us move towards being more relational thinkers (click for explanation) we've thought about the bee community in new ways.

We've tried sorting and grouping facts...
a part/whole map - looking at the function of each part of the hive, and what would happen if that part wasn't there...
and compare/contrasts between members of the bee community...

AMAZING!!!!

It's amazing...Brooklyn has received his '75 night' certificate - for reading at home for 75 nights this year! A big effort Brooklyn...keep it up.
Onwards to 100........

We welcome 2 new friends to Room 2!

A big welcome to Matthew and Reihana...and their families!
We are very happy to have you in our Room 2 community!
